From Broadcast to Intelligent Media: KBSโ€™s AI Transformation and What Comes Next

Over the past five years, KBS has moved from pilot projects to various AI productions across the value chain: planning and research on production and services with AI. This talk presents the current state of AI transformation in automation in routine workflows, AI-assisted editing and localization, metadata and search over large archives, accessibility features, and data-driven distribution โ€” while mapping the next horizon: multimodal foundation models integrated with broadcast operations, real-time personalization at the edge, AI-native formats, and broadcast-network AI services.

ย

This talk frames benefits – speed, scale, cost elasticity, accessibility, and creative augmentation – against risks such as hallucination, bias, IP and rights, security, labor displacement. It proposes a principled architecture for โ€œtrust by designโ€ in AI media: governance and policy alignment, model evaluation for newsroom/production use, data pipelines, content provenance, human-in-the-loop controls, and measurable public-value outcomes.

ย

Finally, it presents a vision for AI media that advances both industry competitiveness and societal trust between broadcast and AI platforms.
